1. Obtain a copy of your timetable and figure out when you are free to work. VCA timetables are usually very full!

  2. Prepare a CV or resume which lists your previous employment experiences, skills hobbies and abilities. Check out the job sites below for tips on how to write a resume, or email Careers and Employment at the University of Melbourne at enquiries-careers@ (followed by) unimelb.edu.au or phone
    03 8344 0100. They can be also located at Baldwin Spencer Building, corner of Tin Alley and Union Road (via Gate 1 off Swanston Street, Parkville, Melbourne).

  3. Check your local area for jobs. Call in to local businesses and leave a copy of your resume.

  4. Check your local paper which is usually delivered free to your letter box . If you are not sure where you will be living, look for a job in the city or close to VCA.

  5. Buy THE AGE on Saturdays. The Age lists thousands of jobs each week.

  6. Check out some of the job sites on the internet : www.mycareer.com.au

  7. Try the Melbourne University ONLINE job site. http://www.services.unimelb.edu.au/careers/ Check it daily as jobs go fast and are updated regularly. You need to enter your student number so you must be enrolled before you can use this site. It will ask for a PIN which is your date of birth.

  8. Check other online sites : http://www.seek.com.au/campus/

  9. Check with Careers and Employment at the University of Melbourne (contact details in point 2) if you need help writing application letters or have questions regarding payment rates or appropriate working conditions. They can also assist you with interview skills too if you feel unsure.

  10. Keep trying. Most students find work because they are persistent and creative in their approaches. Try to be as flexible and open-minded as you can. One job often leads to a better one.
