FILMMAKING
FOR TEENAGERS
APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2010 NOW OPEN!
'TAKE ONE'
Prerequisites: Nil
Cost: $375.00
Times: 10.00am to 4.30pm

SUMMER: 7th, 8th & 9th JANUARY 2010
WINTER: 7th, 8th & 9th July 2010
*Screening: Wednesday 20th January 2010, 6.15pm to 7.45pm.
*Screening of all of the films produced during
Take One and Take Two films of January 2010.
(Invitation Only - Light refreshments provided).
Overview: This three day course provides participants with an introduction to the key roles of this dynamic industry, Writing, Directing and Cinematography. The course combines lectures with practical experience - the students learn by doing with hands on filmmaking workshops running on each of the three days. Working in crews, lead by experienced film practitioners/tutors, course participants have the opportunity to try a variety of film roles for eg: Writer, Director, 2nd Assistant Director, Actor, Camera Operator, Gaffer, Boomswinger and Grip. Included is shooting time in our state of the art film studios. The School of Film & Television emphasizes onset safe practices and working towards professional industry standards.
CERTIFICATE AND DVD: Our filmmaking for teenagers program provides all participants with a VCA completion certificate and a DVD copy of the work produced within the course.

• Introduction to Screenwriting.
• Visual storytelling through camera placement, framing and lighting.
• What makes a great short film?
• The Cinematographer & Camera Department
• Lots of hands on/practical work, making short films!

PLEASE NOTE: Completion of Take One (or attendance in a previous Teenflicks course) is a pre-requisite for entry into Take Two.

Overview: This course provides participants with an intensive hands on filmmaking experience, including fully producing your own individual short film. Completing Take One or having completed a previous VCAM Film & TV course is a pre-requisite for entry into Take Two.
Content: Having completed TAKE ONE students participating in TAKE TWO will further develop their individual creative voice, writing, directing and editing their own individual short film.
A combination of lecture based workshops and a practical filmmaking experience takes participants through pre-production, production and post production. Students can choose to shoot in our state of the art film studios or various other dynamic locations our campus offers. This is an intensive hands on week - start developing your portfolio now! VCAM Film & Television Programs emphasize onset safe practices and working towards professional industry standards.
Screening: Our filmmaking for teenagers program culminates in a screening launching all of the participants’ completed works. All participants will be issued with a VCA completion certificate and a DVD copy of the work produced within the course.

• Shot-listing and storyboards - how to work out coverage.
• Location reconnaissance.
• Scheduling and the role of the 1st Assistant Director.
• Advanced Directing workshop
• Write, Direct and Edit your own individual short film.
• Training on the latest version of Final Cut Pro (editing software).
• Lots of hands on/practical work, making short films!
ANIMATION WORKSHOP
Age: Teenagers & Adults
Cost: $308
Times: 10.00am to 4.30pm
Dates: Saturday 6th & Sunday 87h February 2010
An overview of this craft from the hallowed traditions of Animation to the blurry edges where Animation meets film, Motion graphics and Visual Music. Produce a short Animated Sequence with or without words and music, using pencil, plasticine, computer and or 3d objects. This course is taught by our very own award winning full-time animation lecturers. All materials are provided as part of the course costs. This is a studio based workshop and class numbers are limited. Take home a dvd of the class production work.

SUMMER INTENSIVES 2010
Writing, directing, producing and animation courses are on offer at VCAM Film & Television this Summer.

WRITING*DIRECTING*PRODUCING
Age: Adults
Cost: $154 per day
$385 for full 3 days.
Dates: 29th to 31st January
A three day intensive designed for adults who wish to get a taste of what it takes to work in three of the key areas involved in this dynamic industry. Participants join this program to inspire and inform their own creative agenda, to discover if pursuing further full-time or part-time study of Film & TV is for them, to expand their peer group, to connect with industry professionals, or all of the above! No prior knowledge of Film & TV practices is required, however, many emerging filmmakers with some prior experience find this program suitable for expanding upon their established skills and connections.
Day One: Writing for the Screen
Date: Friday 29th January
Times: 9.30am to 4.30pm
Content: Participants will explore the process of writing narrative drama for the screen. Instruction and discussion on how stories for the screen are created and developed (both film and television).
Participants are also provided with extensive reading and reference materials.
Day Two: Producing
Date: Saturday 30th January
Times: 9.30am to 4.30pm
Content: VCAM Head Producing Lecturer, Ros Walker, provides participants with an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the film producer through all stages of project development, production, post-production, marketing and distribution. Discussion on the various roles a Producer can take on from Associate to Executive – just what is a ‘Creative Producer?’ Additionally low budget filmmaking and approaches to getting your foot in the door through short film production is discussed in detail during the afternoon session.
Day Three: Directing
Sunday 31st January
Times: 9.30am to 4.30pm
Content: Under instruction from an experienced director, approaches to working with actors & key crew members will be covered. Participants will also explore how to realise their own style, from performance through to choice of shots and framing. Professional actors join the class for the afternoon workshop.
