Anthony's performances on the classical guitar are renowned for displaying colour, maturity and a dynamic energy are on such an instrument.
Anthony studied the guitar at the Canberra School of Music with Tim Kain completing a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours and receiving the award for the "Most Outstanding Graduate for 1995" and winning the Canberra School of Music Chamber Music Competition twice.
Anthony has also participated in masterclasses with Manuel Barrueco, John Williams, Leo Brouwer, Gordon Crosskey, Stepan Rak, David Starobin and others. In 1996 Anthony studied in England with the aid of a Big Brother Scholarship and following this was appointed to manage the guitar departments of Canberra's top two private schools (Canberra Church of England Boys' and Girls' Grammar Schools)
Anthony Field was appointed Head of Classical Guitar at the VCA during 1998.
Anthony has won consecutive prizes in the Shell Darwin International Guitar Competition as well as other national competitions. This led to his first solo CD (nominated for an ARIA award) released with Sonart (formerly Festival/Walsingham) in 1997.
Anthony has also recorded works for Naxos Records with soprano Merlyn Quaife and for composer Michael Atkinson.
Anthony's adaptivity and interest in many types of music is evident in diversity of the projects he has undertaken. Anthony has toured Australia and has played in most major guitar Festivals in Australia as well as being invited to play in Scotland, Slovakia, Germany and the Czech Republic.
