Elizabeth Mitchell graduated from the University of Melbourne with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music. In 1978 she was awarded the Welsford Smithers Travelling Scholarship from the University of Melbourne and began four years of overseas study. During this time she gained the Concert Recital Diploma (Premier Prix) from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama and performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician.She has taught piano and academic subjects in many tertiary institutions and has been on the staff of the Victorian College of the Arts since 1992.

Elizabeth examines for the Australian Music Examinations Board and is a frequent adjudicator at competitions and Eisteddfods throughout Australia. She has given performances and workshops both here and abroad and is actively involved in promoting music within the wider community. She is currently President of the Victorian Music Teachers’ Association.
