Richard Perry is Emeritus Professor of Asian Art History at York University, Toronto. With degrees from Harvard University and the University of Michigan, Professor Perry taught popular courses in Indian, Chinese and Japanese art, religion and culture at York University for over thirty years.
Currently resident in Australia, he is an Honorary Research Fellow of the Victorian College of the Arts, where he continues to take special pleasure in teaching Zen Buddhist painting and poetry. He has written on classical and jazz music for American and Canadian journals for over four decades, and currently maintains a regular music column in the Ottawa Citizen, the daily newspaper of Canada's capital city. His hobbies include chopping wood and carrying water.
