David Shea is a composer working with combinations of acoustic and electronic instruments, samplers, turntables, and collaborations with filmmakers, collage artists, writers, choreographers and directors. Originally from New York, he grew up during the 1980s and 1990s playing in the ensembles of John Zorn and the East Village improvisation and experimental scenes composing, playing turntables and sampler and collaborating with many artists in the US and Europe. Studying composition and electronic music for a brief time at the Oberlin Conservatory, his approach has been one of experience through self investigation and a strong connection to the influence of others' work.

Since 1992 he has recorded twelve CDs with his own ensembles, chamber orchestras, soundtracks, and solo works and has toured throughout Europe, the US, Asia and Australia since the late 1980s. Now based in Melbourne he has created the record label, Metta Editions, and is focusing on the Austral-Asian region and contemporary classical, electronic and traditional music and film/visual collage works.
