Michelle comes from the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. Over the past ten years, she has worked across the arts and cultural sector, including being instrumental in the establishment of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Network, Ngorekah Aboriginal Theatre, 3KND and the Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development.
Michelle holds a Bachelor in Communications (Theatre/Media), a Graduate Diploma in Arts Management and a Master of Creative Arts (Research). As a community cultural development practitioner, she has been responsible for the SAY IT OUT LOUD! project in the Hunter Valley (96-97); AUDABLE project with young people with disabilities (97) and a variety of other projects and programs within community radio and the Workers Cultural Action Committee.
Michelle has most recently been involved in the development of two new postgraduate degrees in community cultural development, and she manages a major partnership program at the VCA. The favourite part of her job is brokering new partnerships and developing innovative Indigenous programs. This has included a new CCD project with the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Berry St Victoria and Foundation House.
