Kym trained in Fashion Design at Emily MacPherson College (now RMIT). She went on to work as a Milliner for two years, and subsequently as a Men's Cutter and Maker with the Victoria State Opera for one year.
Later Kym worked freelance for the Australian Ballet and on the film Anzacs. Kym then went overseas where she worked as Production Assistant for Bermans and Nathans Costumers, involving both films and musicals. From there she based herself in Wales, working for Theatre Clwyd on plays, pantomimes and musicals.
On returning to Australia she worked as a Wardrobe Supervisor for QTC for a short time before joining the VCA in 1986 in a similar capacity. Later her position developed and she became Lecturer of Theatre Craft as well as Wardrobe Supervisor.
Kym keeps in contact with the industry by doing freelance costume making and designing for all sorts of performance artists such as The Teabags, Handspan Theatre Company and the Von Trapp Family Crisis.
