Merrin’s first solo exhibition, ‘Paradise in Paradox’ was held in the mid-eighties at 200 Gertrude St. where she was amongst the group of inaugural studio artists. In 1987-8 she was a recipient of Australia Council residencies at P.S.1. New York and Vence, France. Throughout the 1990s Merrin had solo exhibitions at artist run spaces in Melbourne and in 2003 she began exhibiting at the Dianne Tanzer Gallery. She has been short listed in a number of award exhibitions including ‘Contemporary Social Commentaries 2004’ (Warrnambool), ‘The Hutchins Works on Paper Award 2004’, and ‘The 33rd Alice Prize’. Merrin was awarded the ‘Robert Jacks Drawing Prize 2003’ and the ‘2005 Hobart City Art Prize’. Recently she has also been working with the Victorian Tapestry Workshop, and ‘Melbourne Health’ (Royal Melbourne Hospital) in partnership with The Victorian College of the Arts, exhibiting and developing images for special projects. She was invited to be the artist-in-residence at The Royal Melbourne Hospital for three-months commencing July 2006. Merrin carried out research from which she created the design for a 2x4 metre RMH tapestry, woven during 2007 at the VTW. The tapestry is now a feature in the new entrance of The Royal Melbourne Hospital. She has been interviewed on ABC radio and given a number of public presentations about her visual art practice at institutions in Australia, and overseas.

Merrin’s Current project includes a series of lithographs and drawings about living in the Melbourne Docklands.

Merrin uses painting, drawing and printmaking methodologies with mixed media including found and ready-made objects.
