Kate Daw has degrees from the VCA, Glasgow School of Art, RMIT University and most recently has completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne (VCAM). She has most recently participated in exhibitions at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, the Victorian College of the Arts, the National Gallery of Victoria and in 2006 held a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, titled The Between Space. Kate has received many awards and grants, including the prestigious Samstag Scholarship. She has undertaken a residency at the Asialink studio in India, and has exhibited her work widely, both nationally and internationally. She is interested in involving other people in her art practice, and has worked on a number of collaborative works with artists in both Glasgow and Melbourne. Kate currently lectures at the School of Art at the VCA, and co-curated Bird Girls (2007) and Cock and Bull (2009) with Vikki McInnes, both which were exhibited at the Margaret Lawrence Gallery. She has also taught at the Glasgow School of Art and at RMIT University. Kate is Chair of the Creation Panel (New Work) at Arts Victoria. She is a recipient of a 2007 State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowship, and a short-listed finalist (with Stewart Russell) in the inaugural Basil Sellers Art Prize at the University of Melbourne, 2008. Kate Daw is represented by Sarah Scout, Melbourne.
Qualifications
Kate Daw has degrees from the VCA (BA Fine Art), Glasgow School of Art (Post-graduate Diploma, RMIT University (MFA, research) and most recently has completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne at the VCAM School of Art (2006).
Employment History
Since 1998 Kate has taught at a number of art schools including RMIT (Sculpture) and the Glasgow School of Art. She had taught in the Painting Department of the VCAM and is currently Coordinator of the VCAM Art Afterhours and the Graduate Certificate programs, as well as lecturing in the post-graduate programs at the VCAM School of Art. She has worked for Next Wave Festival as a Visual Arts Program Coordinator (1993-1995) and in 1999/2000 she coordinated the Curators Program for the Melbourne International Biennale. She has co-curated Bird Girls (2007) and Cock and Bull (2009) with Vikki McInnes at the Margaret Lawrence Gallery and was Chair of Next Wave Festival from 2003-2006. She is currently Chair of Creation (new work) at Arts Victoria.
