Marie Dumont

Lecturer
Head of Physical Performance

A native of Quebec, Canada, Marie trained at the Jacques Lecoq International Theatre School in Paris.

Marie has worked as an actor/theatre-maker on numerous new works in Montreal and toured extensively in North America with the internationally acclaimed Promised Land by Les Deux Mondes Theatre Company and with The Clearing which was performed at the Brooklyn Academy of music (BAM) New-York. She also worked for the radio, television and film industry in Quebec. Marie returned to Paris to study Lecoq’s teaching methodology, and completed the pedagogical year in 1995. Marie’s unique approach to movement training for actors has been greatly influenced by Ariane Mnouchkine of The Theatre du Soleil, with whom she has studied on a number of occasions.

Established in Australia since late 1996 (Queensland), Marie has worked as an actor, teacher, director and movement choreographer in Queensland, Tasmania, Japan and Singapore. In 2003 she created a new company, The Body In Play, which specialized in Mask and Movement training and creation, and The Moving Body, a new Movement/Theatre Winter School in Brisbane. She was also the co-director of The Creative Gym, a series of Physical Theatre weekends training in Brisbane.

Marie has taught Mask and Movement at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), University of Queensland (UQ), and at Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre’s Annual Stomping Ground Workshops, to name a few.  She is also the acting evaluator for the Cirque du Soleil’s auditions in Australia.
