Gilly McInnes is an award winning writer, director and performer for
the stage. She has written twenty-seven plays, seventeen of which are
puppetry specific. Her adaptation of The Hobbit toured Australia and
was also produced by the prestigious Children’s Theatre Company,
Minneapolis USA. Gilly was a member of the internationally renowned
Handspan Theatre for 17 years and Artistic Director of Polyglot Puppet
Theatre, from 1997–2000. Her early performance work with The Mushroom
Troupe pioneered traditional clowning work in public places in Victoria
and led to ten years of traveling with her solos shows and eccentric
characters. Gilly's writing and presenting work for ABC Education Radio
won a Gold Medal at the International Radio Competition of New York.
She co-created the puppetry course at VCA alongside Peter Wilson,
Richard Jeziorny and Al Martinez.
