John has worked as a lighting designer and technician in Australia and overseas for over 25 years. He was awarded a Designers development grant from the Theatre Board of the Australia Council in 1983/84 and since then has developed an outstanding reputation through his work with the major national theatres, theatre companies, dance companies, film, television and festivals. Some of these include Victoria State Opera, Sydney Theatre Co, Nimrod Theatre, State Theatre Co SA, State Opera SA, Playbox, Magpie Theatre, The Druid Theatre Co, Australian Dance Theatre, Dance Works, Australian Choreographic Ensemble and the Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Come Out Festivals.

John has been a member of the VCA staff since 1999.
