THE ORLANDO COMBO

Orlando Combo gives you the genuine jazz experience from Melbourne's best working band. The group believes a good band can add atmosphere to an event without drawing the focus away from proceedings but can also provide entertainment when required. Corporate clients include BHP, L'Oreal, Ericsson, Ernst and Young, IBM, GE, Pfizer, Accenture and Telstra. In 2001 the group completed a six month contract at the Hotel Sofitel, Vietnam. Wedding performances are also a specialty.

The genre is jazz but more specifically the sound is a blend of swing/blues/bossa nova and groove. Inspiration and repertoire comes from the swing of Louis Armstrong and Oscar Peterson, standards and show tunes of Frank Sinatra, smooth and subtle bossa nova of Stan Getz and Antonio Carlos Jobim and the cool and groove of Miles Davis and George Benson. The instrumental trio is most appropriate for sophisticated and atmospheric background music but if dancing is anticipated we recommend adding our vocalist for later in the evening.

KOTEK

Not only is it rare to hear the sound of Balinese Gamelan in Australia, it is even rarer to see Australians playing the music with such precision and flair. Kotek brings traditional Balinese bamboo music (called Gamelan Rindik) to Australia. Rindik is an instrument of bamboo tubes suspended in a decorative wooden frame and is usually played in pairs. People who have visited Bali may fondly remember seeing Rindik being played in the hotels and restaurants.

Adam King and Jeremy Dullard discovered the enchanting sounds of the Balinese Gamelan whilst studying at the Victorian College of the Arts and have pursued their fascination for the music with intense passion ever since. They both travel to Bali regularly to study and perform with renowned musicians on many gamelan instruments, including the Rindik.

Adam and Jeremy are actively involved in an assortment of gamelan groups and have performed at National Gallery Victoria, Iwaki Auditorium, Federation Square, BMW Edge, Monash University Twilight Concert Series and Hamer Hall amongst others. Adam and Jeremy also work in collaboration with Musica Viva in Schools, presenting gamelan concerts and workshops to school students throughout Victoria and South Australia.

Kotek is Melbourne’s first and only Rindik ensemble. Rindik music is relaxed and atmospheric but it can also be very exciting – Kotek brings a little slice of Bali to every performance.
