Research

School of Art research explores a wide range of critical themes underpinning contemporary art practice.

Our research activities reflect the diverse interests of staff and graduate students at the School of Art. Arising from the discipline of contemporary art, the  research activity includes investigations into aesthetics, new modes of practice and reception and new publishing and presentation spaces.

School of Art research activities can be seen in professional art venues around Melbourne, in national and international contexts, and locally through the Margaret Lawrence Gallery - a space that is at the cutting edge of contemporary art research.

Current Art research interests include:

‧    Spatial intervention research into the relations of object and public space within an expanded sculptural practice

‧    New approaches to the discourse of painting and image making systems including traditional and convergent media and digital visualisation

‧    New technologies and modes of presentation, including experiments in immersive projection, 3D modeling and the aesthetics of the interface seeking new directions in digital imaging and refreshed insights into the existing conceptual paradigms.
