Bachelor of Fine Arts (Animation)

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Animation) is focused on practical screen production with an emphasis on exploration and development of animation screen production, the covers idea development, screenwriting, storyboarding, character design and expression, 2D, 3D, stop motion, experimentation, motion effects, editing, the use of sound and music, and exposure to a wide range of relevant hardware and software. In class you are challenged to respond to set problems, and pursue your own creative thinking to keep the material fresh and relevant to your own experience. Students also undertake Critical Studies subjects that introduce them to the practice of critical self-reflection in the context of wider contemporary arts practices, and have the opportunity choose electives from other specialisations across the Victorian College of the Arts, and the University of Melbourne. Graduates of the Film School have been keenly sought after to produce animated works for television series, short films and feature-length animations; with many applying their animation skills to video art and installation, website, games and educational programs. Many of our graduates develop high-profile careers in the film, television or allied industries.

Students who are successful in gaining an offer of a place at the VCA School of Film and Television are required, as Condition of Entry, to have a current and valid Australian Level 2 Applied First Aid certificate prior to beginning the course.
