Course overview

APPLICATIONS FOR 2013 ENTRY OPEN 6 AUGUST 2012

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film and Television) will give you the skills to create screen programs of the highest artistic and technical standards.

The course is focused on practical screen production with an emphasis on screenwriting, direction and editing. You are encouraged to be innovative, experimental, to explore ideas and to develop the expertise to express ideas for an audience.

The program is characterised by regular opportunities to gain practical and collaborative skills through developing your own short productions as well as crewing on other students’ projects.

Parallel to studio-based studies, you will undertake Critical Studies subjects that will introduce you to the practice of critical self-reflection in the context of wider contemporary arts practices. Students may choose electives from specialisation areas across the VCA or from the University of Melbourne’s broad undergraduate subject offerings.

There is also the opportunity to complete an Honours program that includes a studio-based, year-long project as well as a related research paper to prepare you to undertake a higher degree by research.
