APPLICATIONS FOR 2013 ENTRY - OPEN 6 AUGUST 2012

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre) objectives are to:

  • Train professional music theatre performers, highly skilled in the three major areas of singing, acting and dance, both individually and in combination;
  • Train performers who have both the knowledge and skills to adapt to the various requirements of genre and style in a diverse range of music theatre professional practice and in allied areas of performance;
  • Imbue performers with a high level of professional conduct that incorporates respect, responsibility and support for collaboration as part of their professional practice;
  • Develop skills to contribute to, create and perform new work;
  • Encourage autonomy, confidence, self-awareness and self-motivation;
  • Encourage the individual to recognise their uniqueness as a performer whilst developing diversity;
  • Develop a spirit of enquiry about the artist’s capacity to reflect, respond and contribute to cultural and social debate and understanding through their work;
  • Encourage collaboration with the wider educational and artistic community throughout their study.

Many of our graduates have established careers in commercial music theatre, independent music theatre, cabaret, concerts, recording, working on cruise ships, theatre in education and a diverse range of allied performing arts practice.

2011 graduates include: Connor Crawford (Jersey Boys), Jayde Kirchert (Annie), Zoy Frangos (An Officer and a Gentleman), Evan Lever (Moonshadow), Nelson Gardner (The Producers), Alana Tranter (MK Outlier – feature film). Past VCA Music Theatre graduates include Winston Hillyer (Simba: The Lion King, Germany), Erin Cornell (Elphaba: Wicked Tokyo), Danielle Matthews (winner The Rob Guest Endowment 2009), Teagan Wouters (Jersey Boys), Jensen Overend (Rock of Ages), Stephen McDowell (Mary Poppins), Ross Hannaford (Cirque de Soleil, Wicked, We Will Rock You, Shout, numerous Production Company shows), Leah Lim (A Chorus Line, West Side Story, Kismet), Benjamin Clark (The Ten Tenors international touring ensemble). Other alumni work in cabaret, children's theatre,as recording artists, actors and dancers in a variety of settings.   

Did you know?

In 2011 VCA’s Music Theatre students Hugo Chiarella and Robert Tripolino wrote and composed a new full-length musical theatre work Dreamsong, which was performed by the 2011 graduating class to sell out audiences.
