Students and staff at VCA Dance were privileged to have a masterclass by Taiwan’s major contemporary dance company, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan during their July 2006 performance tour to Melbourne.
VCA Dance was the only dance department in Australia to have a special workshop with Associate Director, Ms Lee Ching-Chun. Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan was established by internationally acclaimed choreographer and writer Lin Hwai-min in 1973. The company has since won numerous awards for its distinctive choreography.
While in Australia, Cloud Gate gave performances in Brisbane and Melbourne. The tour was supported by Taiwan’s peak arts body, the Council for Cultural Affairs and the Arts Centre in Melbourne, Victoria. Ausdance, Australia’s peak professional dance body, faciliated the workshop for the VCA.
The Vice Chairman of Taiwan’s Council for Cultural Affairs, Mr. Hong Ching-Feng took time away from performances to visit the VCA. Mr Hong said, “that he was impressed by the facilities of the College and its commitment to artistic learning from an intercultural perspective.”
