VCA Margaret Lawrence Gallery is a public art space which performs an integral and critical function within the VCA community. It also plays an instructional and educational role for the broader Victorian community. It is the policy of the VCA Gallery to develop exhibitions through various art forms reflecting the breadth of studies offered at the VCA. The public role of the Gallery is to provide one of the crucial links between the College and the University, with its community of academics, artists and students, and the wider community of Melbourne and the region.

The purpose of the VCA Margaret Lawrence Gallery is to support and present innovative contemporary art practices as well as create an environment for critical discussion, understanding and promotion of visual arts. It presents an annual exhibition program, with related publications. The Gallery serves as a professional exhibiting space for graduate, postgraduate and alumni work, School of Art Department projects, in-residence artists, School of Art staff work, as well as independent local and international exhibitions.
