Oxford Reference Online includes several art dictionaries, including Oxford Dictionary of Twentieth Century Art and Concise Oxford Dictonary of Art Terms. Database is updated regularly.

Grove Art Online includes entire text of Dictionary of Art ed. J.Turner,(1996), and The Oxford Companion to Western Art (2001)

New Media Online is a trilingual English-French-German catalogue. Includes material from the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Museum Ludwig, and the Centre pour l'Image Contemporaine.

To see the Subject Set for Art. Login to Supersearch.
Select Subject from the pull-down menu (it will say Resource Sets)
Select Performing + Visual Arts
Then select Art from the sub-categories box.
Select the database you want to search, or click on the check boxes to search several databases at once.

Useful Databases

ARTBibliographies Modern
- is the premier source of information on modern and contemporary arts. Includes english and foreign language material and coverage is wide ranging with monthly updates. Dates of coverage are 1974 to present.

ARTEX is a listing of exhibition catalogues from public and commercial galleries in Australia.Covers a wide variety of media. Note: This database is no longer being updated - instead exhibition listings are now being entered in the Ozbiogs database.

AustArt is an index of Australian art journals held in the College of Fine Arts Library, the University of New South Wales. Coverage is from 1987 to the present.

AVAD 5 is an Australian Visual Arts Database. A unique source of biographies on over 22,000 Australian visual artists, including over 5,800 indigenous artists. It includes NATSIVAD- National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Artists Database. This biographical database, currently has biographical details on more than 5,800 indigenous artists. AVAD 5 also includes OzBiogs which features over 22,000 biographical and bibliographic entries for Australian artists.

Bibliography of the History of Art - Contains abstracts and indexes of current publications in the history of art. There are over 665,000 records, with approximately 8,000 added quarterly. Coverage is from 1973 to present.

Picture Australia - consists of links to over 450,000 digitised images from Australia's leading cultural heritage insitutions including the Australian War Memorial, National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia, and the State Libraries of NSW, Tasmania, and Victoria.

Wilson Art Abstracts - Contains major international art publications.
The years of coverage are September 1984 to present.

APAFT - Australian Public Affairs- Full Text provides Internet access to the scanned images of journal articles from published material on the social sciences and humanities.

APAIS (Australian Public Affairs Information Service) Database provides links to articles from hundreds of leading Australasian journals.

Expanded Academic ASAP - indexes across all academic disciplines access to abstracts and some full text articles.

ERIC - Education database. Full text access dependant upon contributor permission. Covers articles in Education including the arts.

JSTOR - is an archive of scholarly journals covering a wide variety of disciplines. JSTOR does not include articles published in recent years, but may provide a link to them.

MLA International Bibliography - a classified listing and subject index of scholarly books and articles on modern languagges, literatures, folklore, and linguistics since 1926

Project Muse - is an online resource which indexes a range of full-text scholarly journals. Subjects covered include the arts humanities and social sciences.

Arts and Humanities Citation Index - Web of Science - a citation index that includes social sciences, and science. From 1975 to the present.

 

Newspapers

All newspapers are accessed via Supersearch. Login and select Newspapers from the Resource Sets

Factiva Includes major Australian newspapers and around 8000 publications, including local and international newspapers, newswires and journal sources

Lexis-Nexis News Lexis-Nexis News is a fulltext newspaper article database. Articles are available from 1993 to the current day.

Australian Digital Theses Project contains digital versions of theses produced by the postgraduate research students at the participating Australian Institutions - also links to relevant Electronic Theses & Dissertations sites.

Index to Theses Index to These Accepted for Higher Degrees by the Universities of Great Britain and Ireland and the Council for National Academic Awards.
Proquest Digital Dissertations - online access to citations and abstracts for every title in the Dissertation Abstracts Database.
