Bachelor of Music Performance

Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have satisfactorily completed VCE or Year 12 equivalent with a study score of at least 25 in Units 3 and 4 English/ English Language/ Literature or at least 30 in ESL.

Note: From 2009 all students with a VCE English, English Language or English Literature score in the 25 - 29 range (or a VCE ESL score in the 30 - 34 range), or equivalent English score in another Australian Year 12 program, will be required to take a Diagnostic English Language Assessment (DELA) once they have enrolled at the University, and to follow recommendations for language support. Application
Application for entry into the Bachelor of Music Performance must be made through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) - www.vtac.edu.au.

Applications for 2010 open in August of this year. Please visit this website later in the year for more information.

Once you have submitted your course application and paid the application fee you will be directed to VTAC’s MyInfo website. Follow the prompts to access further information about the course you have applied for, and the Supplementary Information form which you need to download, complete and mail directly to the Faculty before the closing date. Auditions with the Selection Panel will be scheduled on the basis of information contained in the Supplementary Information form.

Please be aware of the requirement that you pay your application fee before being able to access the MyInfo site. If you do not do this, you will not be able to obtain access to the Supplementary Information form and will not be able to complete your full application by the specified closing date.

Selection Procedures

Improvisation (Jazz)
Entry is based on an audition and interview. Applicants should prepare two contrasting works to demonstrate their skills as an improvisor. Repertoire may include original works (pieces composed by the applicant), jazz standards, solo improvisation and/or improvised pieces involving movement/theatrics. Applicants will be required to sight read a short piece, demonstrate practising basic technical skills and undergo a Performance Related Studies test (viva/voce format). The audition is scheduled for approximately fifteen minutes and applicants must provide their own accompanist.

Repertoire
Entry is based on an audition and interview. Applicants should prepare three contrasting works including a technical study. A selection will be made by the auditioning panel from these works. All applicants will also be required to sight read a short piece and undergo a Performance Related Studies test (viva/voce format). The audition is scheduled for approximately fifteen minutes and applicants must provide their own accompanists.

Singers should be prepared to demonstrate some unaccompanied major and minor scales and arpeggios in the audition.

Practical Composition
Entry is based on an audition and interview. Applicants must complete a performance as evidence of creative performance skills and highest performance level as well as present a body of works demonstrating an established composition craft within a range of compositional styles.. Scores, sound tape and/or video tape should be included as part of the application. Applicants will also be required to complete a creative task which is allocated 15 minutes prior to the audition time, and undergo a Performance Related Studies test (viva voce format).

Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours)

Entry is based on an audition and interview in which applicants must be prepared to demonstrate their current level of proficiency within their principal study area by performing three contrasting works. Applicants who are applying as improvisors, may include original works (pieces composed by the applicant), jazz standards and solo improvisation. In addition, applicants must submit a brief written proposal for the Materials and Structures Research Project (dissertation). The audition is scheduled for approximately twenty minutes and applicants must provide their own accompanist.

Foundation Music Performance

Entry is based on audition and interview. Candidates must perform three contrasting works on their principal study instrument as well as sight read a short piece, and undergo a short Performance Related Studies test (viva vice format). The audition is scheduled for approximately fifteen minutes and applicants must provide their own accompanist.

Entry is made on the basis of an audition and interview in which applicants must be able to demonstrate their current level of proficiency within their Principal Study area. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor of Music Performance degree or equivalent. The audition is scheduled for approximately thirty minutes and applicants must provide their own accompanist.

Entry Requirements: 
Entry is made on the basis of an audition, academic record, professional experience or status within the profession and satisfactory evidence of the capacity to undertake the program as outlined in the course document. The audition is scheduled for approximately thirty minutes and applicants must provide their own accompanist.

Application for Advanced Standing

Students wishing to receive credit for study previously undertaken must apply at the time when they apply for admission. The application should be discussed at the audition/interview. Credit is not available for research degrees.
